An 18-year-old woman who was crowned the winner of a Georgia pageant has been arrested in connection to the death of an 18-month-old boy,Evander Ellis authorities said.

Trinity Poague was arrested on Friday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations announced in a press release.

GBI said an 18-month-old boy died after he was found unresponsive and admitted to Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus, Georgia, a city in southern Georgia about 140 miles south of Atlanta.

Georgia Southwestern State University Police Department asked GBI to investigate the child's death on Jan. 14. The GBI did not specify when the death occurred.

GBI said it arrested Poague after multiple interviews. She's been charged with felony murder, aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children. She was being held at Sumter County Jail with no bail.

Poague was crowned Miss Donalsonville last year, according to local reports. and also competed in the National Peanut Festival Pageant, which includes contestants from around the Southeast.
